The Master in Management of Social Enterprises (Master GIS / Master in Gestione delle Imprese Sociali), run by EURICSE and the University of Trento, is celebrating 30 years of shaping skilled professionals for Italy’s social enterprise and nonprofit sector, much of it organized as cooperatives.
Two years ago, the program underwent a major redesign, created in close collaboration with over 400 alumni and experts. This co-creative process explored key questions about how social enterprises can attract young talent, respond to the needs of emerging professionals, and innovate to meet today’s challenges. Out of this effort came the Master GIS Manifesto, a guiding framework that emphasizes sustainable, accessible learning and equips participants to become active contributors to positive change within their organizations.
The Master GIS redesign shows how a program can evolve through the input and collaboration of alumni, faculty, and students.
The program now welcomes not only recent graduates but also professionals seeking to deepen their skills and broaden their impact. Participants experience a flexible mix of online classes and in-person workshops, complemented by scholarships, funding opportunities, and the Fuori GIS programme, which brings together students, sector leaders, and alumni for dialogue, networking, and hands-on learning.
Through this approach, the program creates a space where ideas and experience intersect, helping participants translate learning into meaningful contributions within social enterprises.
